What is a Parents' Association
The Parents' Association is the structure through which the parents in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children in the school. The Parents' Association works with the principal, staff and the Board of Management to build an effective partnership between home and school. It has been shown that the better the quality of the relationship between home and school and the more support given the parent body, the more teachers and staff can do a better job.
Urlingford N.S. Parents' Association
The Parents' Association in Urlingford NS has been established for several years and is affiliated to the National Parents' Council. The present committee has four officers who represent the full parent body of our school. There are normally four meetings per year.
The key activities of The Parents' Association include:
-
Holding an AGM in the school hall every September.
-
Fundraising for school equipment (e.g. nets behind the goals on the school pitch in 2025).
-
Publication of a quarterly newsletter.
-
Assisting the principal and staff in the development and review of school policies.
-
Assisting the principal with school self evaluation (every two years).
-
Inviting a guest speaker and address the parents on relevant topics.
-
Help provide refreshments after graduation mass in early/mid June every year.
The Board of Management, principal and staff really appreciate the valuable contribution that the Parents' Association makes to our school.
